Whitfield/De Smet Jesuit Art Show Exchange Coming This Weekend

Twenty-five Whitfield high school students are participating in a collaborative art exchange program and show with students from De Smet Jesuit High School. This unique program is sponsored by the Creve Coeur Arts Commission and the St. Louis Regional Arts Commission.

The work will be on display during two public receptions at The Tappmeyer House on Friday, March 1 from 7:00-9:00 PM and on Saturday, March 2 from 2:00-4:00 PM.

The exchange program began earlier this fall with a meeting of participating students held at DeSmet. Each student brought an original piece of artwork to the meeting. After being randomly paired, the students had thirty minutes to observe their partner’s artwork, discuss the artist’s intent, and share their thoughts with each other. Next, students returned to their respective school studios, analyzed the information exchanged with their fellow artist and then identified an element of inspiration from the work. Finally, each artist created a new, original piece of artwork as a result of the creative and collaborative exchange.

Visual media represented in the show include: drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics and photography.

The Tappmeyer House is located in Millennium Park at 2 Barnes West Drive in Creve Coeur (the first street east of Mason Road.) From Olive Blvd, take Barnes West Drive south to the park entrance.
