A Week to Commemorate and Raise Awareness

National Ag Day

Coinciding with World Water Day, National Ag Day was this past Tuesday, March 19^th. Each year on this day, Americans recognize the significant contributions of agriculture to our nation.

National Ag Day is a day to celebrate those contributions and also to increase public awareness of the vital role that agriculture plays in our society.As the world population continues to grow at an accelerated rate, much like our water resources, there is also a great demand placed on food produced in the United States.

Through National Ag Day, the Agriculture Council of America (ACA), hopes to help American’s better understand how food and other products are produced and the vital role that agriculture plays in maintaining a flourishing economy.

World Water Day

As people all across the globe celebrate the 20^th anniversary of World Water Day today, more than one-sixth of the world’s population is still without access to improved water sources, which is rarely acknowledged on a global scale.

Each year, on March 22^nd, issues surrounding the water resources are brought to the limelight around the world.

The United Nations has declared 2013 the International Year of Water Cooperation and has devoted today to focus on the world’s water issues with hopes to raise awareness of these issues and encourage water cooperation worldwide.

As the population of the world increases, water and food resources will be even more limited than they are today. Water cooperation, on a local and global level, is vital to establishing sustainable management practices of our most precious resource.
