David Caldwell Files For City Council

Today, I filed the forms with the Creve Coeur City Clerk to officially become a candidate for Ward 1 City Council representative.

I’ve lived in Creve Coeur since 1976 and since 2007 I’ve covered Creve Coeur City Council and Planning & Zoning meetings as the editor of www.crevecoeurvoter.com. As a result of my reporting and commentary, I was honored to be named the 2011 Creve Coeur “Citizen of the Year”.

Several current and former City Council members urged me to run for the Council. During an exploratory period, I found tremendous support from Ward 1 residents resulting in many more petition signatures than required for the filing. 

As a retired Monsanto finance executive and a long-time business owner in Creve Coeur, I am well qualified to participate in city financial management. Mayor Barry Glantz appointed me this year to serve on the Employee Pension Board. I recently advocated a reduction in the city property tax, which was passed by the City Council.

Recently, I recommended the City Council establish a Community Foundation to focus on public art and historic preservation. If elected April 2, 2013, I will donate the majority of my City Council salary to help fund it.

I know you’ll want to see and hear more from me about my positions and opinions, but I also want to hear from you what you expect of me as your Councilman. I’ll soon have up and running a campaign website that you can access for information at any time but, most important, allow you to connect with me with your questions and concerns. As a member of the Council I must not only represent the residents of Ward 1 but must also be sensitive to the expectations and concerns of the other three Wards. My campaign slogan, “DC-for-CC”, says just that, standing for David Caldwell for City Council and David Caldwell for Creve Coeur.

I promise to run a positive campaign the next three-and-a-half months. There are many issues to address and I fully embrace dialogue for each and every one.

Hello, I’m David Caldwell; I live in Creve Coeur and live in Ward 1.

For the last five years, I’ve been attending Creve Coeur City Council meetings for my blog, www.crevecoeurvoter.com. 

Many of you may have seen the blog but if you haven’t, I invite you to visit it today. 

Now, I’m actually going to be running for City Council as opposed to just sitting in the audience. I’ve learned a lot by watching and commenting on the proceedings.  

Now I hope to bring that experience to be a good member of the City Council.
