St. Louis area selected for the first Active House to be built in the USA

I have some exciting news! I attended the ground-breaking ceremony for the FIRST Active House in the United States.  Webster Groves has been selected by Velux, a Denmark-based company, for the location of its first Active House USA.  This innovative, sustainable home is being built by Hibbs Homes and Verdatek Solutions. The first of its kind in North America, Active House USA takes an innovative approach to energy efficiency, indoor air quality, and interaction with the surrounding environment.

Using the Active House specifications developed by the Active House Alliance and built to meet certification requirements for four North American, sustainable building standards: Energy Star; EPA Indoor Air Plus; Building America Builder’s Challenge; and the National Green Building Standard, this custom home is a prototype and will help further develop green home building specifications to fit the North American climate and environmental needs.
