My husband and I were talking about taking the kids to the when IΒ told him that when I went as a kid, "I used to sit in front of the parking lot where Hi-Fi-Fo-Fum used to be."
A Chicago native, his only response was "how come people from St. Louis explain where things are by saying what used to be there?"
Not since my college-years epiphany that toasted ravioli isn't on every menu every where have I had such a rush of "doesn't everyone do that?" C'mon, it just makes sense.

Apparently, no. It's a St. Louis thing. Just like the way we pronounce Creve Coeur or Spoede - with absolutely no trace of their original languages.
