
The City of Creve Coeur recognized Susan Baseley as Citizen of the Year 2013 for her dedication and service to the community at the annual Holiday Appreciation Event on Tuesday, December 3 at the Government Center.

Mayor Barry Glantz and Council Member Charlotte DβAlfonso presented the award to Baseley at the event honoring all members of the cityβs 14 boards, commissions and committees. Of the numerous volunteers in attendance, Mayor Glantz said, βOur community is fortunate to have volunteers like Sue who continually give their time and talents to make Creve Coeur such a wonderful place to live and work.β

When presenting the award, DβAlfonso reviewed many of Baseleyβs achievements during her more than 13 years of volunteering with the city.Β As a member of the Horticulture, Environment and Beautification (HEB) Committee, Baseley was instrumental in revising ordinances in order for Creve Coeur to be a native plant friendly city and she made major contributions to the published native plant list. Under HEB, the Arts Commission was formed. DβAlfonso further explained that Baseley was very active in the review of the last three solid waste contracts.

In addition to Baseleyβs service with HEB, she was the founding vice-chair of the Climate Action Task Force (CATF). Under the task forceβs stewardship, Creve Coeur became a βCool City,β and a successful community garden was established. Baseley was serving as interim chair in June 2013 when the city achieved Green Power Community status, joining the ranks of less than 50 communities nationwide who have offset three percent of their entire communityβs energy consumption with renewable energy sources.Β

DβAlfonso said, βSue has shown dedication to the city and can be consistently counted on to promote new ways and solutions to better our community.β
