On Tuesday, April 16th, St. Louis Abbey and St. Anselm Parish will host very special guests – Calmus Ensemble. These five Leipzig musicians have won a whole string of international prizes and competitions, and the reach of their activities is constantly expanding, taking them throughout Europe as well as to North and South America. In 2010 the quintet made its debut at Carnegie Hall, New York. The ensemble has forged a refined sound, which few groups achieve: perfect blend of sound, precision and lightness are their hallmarks.
Via Polyphonia, the program they will present at the Abbey, is a vocal journey tracing the evolution of sacred early music from Medieval times to the climax of Renaissance polyphony. The path begins in France in the beginning of the 14th century and leads over the five generations of composers from the Franco-Flemish (also known as Netherlandish) School.
Their only performance in the St. Louis area is on Tuesday, April 16th, at 7:30 p.m. in the St. Louis Abbey Church, 500 South Mason Road, Creve Coeur, MO 63141.
