The community is invited to join Congregation Temple Israel in commemorating its 125th anniversary at an “Honoring Our Past Shabbat” worship service on Friday, April 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Gall Family Sanctuary. A festive Oneg Shabbat will follow. Anyone with a connection to Temple Israel, past or present, including descendents of the Temple’s founding families, past B’nai Mitzvah, Confirmands and couples married by Temple Israel’s rabbis are encouraged to attend.
“From our classical Reform roots to our contemporary liturgy and music of today, this special service will be a spiritual journey through 125 years of worship at Temple Israel,” said Rabbi Amy Feder. A professional choir and organ will accompany the service, which will include liturgy and music from prayer books used throughout Temple Israel’s history, including one written by the congregation’s first Rabbi, Solomon H. Sonneschein, in the late 1880s.
