Community Corner

Family History Conference

St. Louis Genealogical Society (StLGS) is sponsoring its 44th Annual Family History
Conference, β€œGenealogy in the Computer Age”

The conference highlights researching on the computer and available resources. Not all genealogical information is available on the Internet, but there is plenty to get you started. And the computer means you can do some genealogy in your easy chair in your pajamas.

The featured speaker is internationally renowned speaker, David E. Rencher, AG, CG, FIGRS, FUGA, Chief Genealogical Officer for FamilySearch who will discuss β€œFamilySearch: Future and Vision,” β€œConnecting the Community through FamilySearch,” and β€œElectronic Resources for Your Irish Research.”

Other speakers include Deborah Cribbs, MLS, St. Louis University, β€œGetting Genealogical Websites to Work for You;” William Fischetti, Assistant Director, St. Louis Research Center, State Historical Society of Missouri, β€œSearching Records at the State Historical Society;” Larry Franke, MLS, St. Louis County Library, β€œUsing Ancestry LibraryEdition.com, Fold3.com, and HeritageQuest Online.com” and β€œUsing the St. Louis County Library’s Online Catalog;” Bob Goode, Information Systems Director, StLGS, β€œGenealogy Apps for Smart Phones and Tablets;” Christine Miller, Senior Reference Archivist, Missouri State Archives, β€œMissouri Digital Heritage: Explore Our Collective Past;” Ilene Murray, Publications Director, StLGS, β€œRefresh Your Research” and β€œSuccessful Scanning;” Dennis Northcott, Associate Archivist, Missouri History Museum, β€œFinding Your Ancestors on the Missouri History Museum Website; ”Pat Stamm, CG, CGL, β€œNewspaper Research: More than Obituaries;” and Carol Whitton, CG, β€œLet Your Computer Help Organize Your Data.”

New this year, KMOX radio personality, Charlie Brennan, will give a short talk during the lunch hour on β€œTen Things Even Historians Don’t Know about St. Louis.” Then he will be available over the lunch hour to sell and sign his new book, Amazing St. Louis. A large vendor area will include local genealogy societies and genealogical vendors with publications on a variety of topics.

Rounding out the day’s excitement will be six raffles including two one-year Ancestry.com subscriptions, a one-year membership in the National Genealogical Society, four hours of research from the St. Louis Genealogical Society Research team, and two sets of five permanent loan microfilms from FamilySearch. For more information and registration go to the society website at www.stlgs.org.
