Mayor Glantz Writes About The Winds Of Change
Creve Coeur Mayor Barry Glantz writes about the state of the city.

The following column appeared in the city of Creve Coeur's newsletter and is excerpted here with permission.
βWhen the winds ofΒ change blow, someΒ people build wallsΒ and others buildΒ windmills.β
This Chinese proverb is a personalΒ favorite and quite poignant, as I had theΒ good fortune recently to talk about theΒ βState of the Cityβ at a luncheon meetingΒ sponsored by the Creve Coeur/OlivetteΒ Chamber of Commerce. I am very proudΒ to serve as mayor of our community, andΒ always enjoy the opportunity to shareΒ some of our current achievements, andΒ talk about so many possibilities for theΒ future.
For example, construction hasΒ commenced on the new Plaza Jaguar/Land Rover dealership (at the old ReutherΒ Automotive site) on Olive Boulevard.Β The Goddard School for early childhoodΒ development is also under constructionΒ at the corner of Mosley Road and OliveΒ Boulevard, and expected to open inΒ November. The University of MissouriΒ Extension is occupying their new officeΒ space on Gateway Boulevard, and VillageΒ Green re-invested in our community,Β hosting a grand opening last month forΒ three completely remodeled multi-familyΒ properties in our city.
Just recently, the Donald Danforth PlantΒ Science Center announced plans for anΒ extensive expansion project on theirΒ Creve Coeur campus which is projectedΒ to generate at least 100 new jobs forΒ scientists in our community. The CityΒ of Creve Coeur, in collaboration withΒ the Danforth Center, Bio-Research &Β Development Growth (BRDG) Park, andΒ the Helix Center (St. Louis Countyβs highΒ tech incubator) is actively engaged in anΒ ongoing effort to help brand this area ofΒ our community as the premier bio-techΒ corridor.Β
Other significant proposals (providingΒ a variety of complementary uses toΒ some of these projects) are at variousΒ stages of review and will be thoroughlyΒ vetted by a wide array of communityΒ stakeholders to ensure that the end resultsΒ are commensurate with our vision ofΒ a high quality city. To make sure thatΒ process is successful, it is imperative thatΒ community leaders maintain accessibilityΒ to all constituents, are available toΒ address questions and concerns, andΒ (perhaps most importantly) are fosteringΒ a positive environment by listening to andΒ sharing ideas for continued excellenceΒ in Creve Coeur. This continues to beΒ the motivating factor for my monthlyΒ βCoffee with the Mayorβ program (nowΒ officially a year old). I am thrilled thatΒ this platform for engagement continuesΒ to gain in popularity and substance, andΒ that key city staff and many City CouncilΒ representatives use this opportunity toΒ connect with our citizens as well.
Creve Coeur is so fortunate to beΒ the home of vibrant residentialΒ neighborhoods, complemented byΒ a thriving business community. TheΒ confidence to invest (and re-invest) in ourΒ city is the wind that benefits all of usβ¦will we build walls or windmills?
