Midwest Phillies Take 1st Place in Greater Midwest Baseball August is Awesome Tournament

The Midwest Phillies took first place in the Greater Midwest Baseball August is Awesome tournament at Chesterfield Valley Athletic Complex on August 25, 2013.  This was the first fall ball tournament for the Midwest Phillies, with 11 teams playing in the 17U/18U division.

In the first pool game, the Midwest Phillies beat Waterloo Baseball 9-6.  In the second pool game, the Phillies lost to St. Louis Redtails – White 3-4.  They earned a spot to play in the tournament championship bracket.

In the first bracket game, #8 seed Midwest Phillies upset #1 seed Ducks Green 2-1.  In the second bracket game they shut out the Edwardsville Tigers 5-0.  In the championship game the Phillies played the Wildcats, a team of predominantly Westminster players, and won 7-2.

The Midwest Phillies next fall tournament is the weekend of September 7-8 at Founders Park in Lake St. Louis.

The Midwest Phillies fall ball team for 2013 includes Midwest Phillies core team members Garrett Taylor (Catcher – Parkway North), Matt Rizzo (Outfielder – Parkway North), Nick Lorenz (Pitcher – CBC), Ben Campbell (Infielder – Parkway North), Joey Hope (Pitcher – Parkway North), Thomas Higgins (Pitcher – Kirkwood), and Russell Susuki (Infielder – Parkway North).  Players joining for fall ball include Joey Reeves (Pitcher – Parkway North), Adam Faires (Pitcher- Parkway North), Jake Burger (Infielder – CBC), and Mitch Plassmeyer (Pitcher – De Smet).
