Parents and Student's Expectations
Parents and student's expectations for the school year may vary...

August is the beginning of another school year. I have heard from both parents and students regarding feelings and expectations about the upcoming school year. Mostly, parents have high expectations for their student because they want successful outcomes. Students also have high expectations. However, parents and students expectations may be very different.
Parents envision their student as being diligent in school in order to achieve academic goals. Taking a more responsible role in household responsibilities may be another expectation. Developing and maintaining drug free behavior is another significant expectation. Parents may view the beginning of the school year as an opportunity for betterment and change.
Students may embrace some or all of the same expectations as their parents. However, some students may experience feelings of anxiety and depression. Research indicates that students do not always confide in parents. This may be where your student begins experiencing difficulty.
