Parkway Central Steps on Northwest Early, Cruises to Easy Victory

On first offensive play after forcing a quick three-and-out against visiting Northwest Friday night, quarterback Cole Gorman connected with receiver Brandon Sheperd for a 56-yard touchdown.

The Colts (3-0) were 131 seconds into the game, and they already had enough points to post their third win of the season.

Behind Gorman’s arm and Sheperd’s legs, Parkway Central put up another 36 points and stampeded Northwest, 42-0.

The Colts were simply too athletic, too fast and too physical for the Lions, who dropped to 0-3. So far in 2011, Northwest has been outscored 102-7.

Parkway Central’s numbers are nearly opposite as the Colts have outscored their opponents, 115-21.

“I still think there are a lot of things we need to do better,” Parkway Central coach Mark Goldenberg said. “But there are a lot of things that we did well tonight. I thought we played with more passion tonight, and I thought we played with a better focus tonight.”

That passion and focus practically disabled the Lions, who could muster only 59 yards of total offense in the first half. The Colts, meanwhile, racked up 279 yards in just two quarters. And they didn’t stop after halftime.

Parkway Central opened the third quarter in similar fashion as the first, this time with Devon Westley zipping across the hash marks for 40 yards on the first offensive play. Four snaps later, teammate Jace Roman punched it in from the one-yard line and the Colts led 35-0.

With 2:30 left in the fourth quarter, Michael Slater scampered 33 yards for the Colts’ fifth touchdown of the game.
