Parkway Unveils New Logo and New Mentality
Parkway School District staff celebrates a back-to-school kickoff at Queeny Park with a new brand unveiling.
With an estimated 2,400 staff members in attendance from the Thursday morning, the district's back-to-school kickoff at was considered a success. The district unveiled its new brand, the first brand change since 1988.
According to the website ParkwaySchools.net, βThe new brand platform and related elements such as the new tagline and logo provide more effective written and visual complements to Parkway's new mission, vision and strategic plan developed through Project Parkway.β
The brand, which now reads Parkway Schools instead of Parkway School District, features a logo with a book and sunburst and the phrase, βHigher Expectations. Brighter Futures.β

The district is excited to unveil the new logo, but Parkway Director of Communications Paul Tandy said in an email to Patch, βThe focus is really on our new mission, vision and five-year strategic plan that was developed over the past two years through Project Parkway. The new logo and brand are simply a reflection of that."
During the kickoff rally, staff also got to meet the new superintendent, Keith Marty. Marty showed a slideshow of his family and spoke of his roots. He also spoke of a vision for the future of Parkway, striving for the district to work toward excellend as a whole and not separate schools or departments. He spoke of innovation in technology integration, customizable education, flexible classroom and grade structures, varied hours for learning and a focus on growth instead of credits. Β

βWe will not achieve our mission of Project Parkway by doing things the same way. I want to be real clear. Iβm not criticizing the work weβve done. The past is the past. Weβve worked hard. Youβve worked hard to achieve a great deal. But if we want to move to 100 percent, we want to move that continuum from good to great, the likelihood is that weβre going to have to take a look at things differently,β Marty said.
Marty said his vision for the district goes hand in hand with the new logo, which ParkwaySchools.net describes as βreflective of the energy in Parkway today and our hopes for tomorrow. It takes the torch concept to a new day that is even brighter than before.β
