Viewfinder: Creve Coeur Race Beats the Rain

Delayed only slightly by a thunderstorm, annual race goes on.

The Heart to Heart race took off from the Center Government Center on Saturday morning at 8:05 a.m. at the last crack of lightning.

The seventh annual race, sponsored by the Creve Coeur Parks and Recreation Department, was scheduled to start at 8:00 but thunderstorms prevented that. Creve Coeur Recreation Director Fran Thies said about half of the 300 who signed up actually came to run, but 50 came and signed up that morning. She said she kept getting calls to see if the race was on. "If I'm here you all better be here," she told anyone that called. Mayor Harold Dielmann started the race.

Runners (or walkers) could complete either a 5-kilometer or a 10-kilometer course. The race was timed by Fleet Feet. For complete race results go to race results.
