Are You Aware of PARAPROSDOKIANS?

Paraprosdokian is a figure of speech in which the latter part of a sentence or phrase is surprising or unexpected; frequently used in humorous situations. "Where there is a will, I want to be in it" is a type of paraprosdokian.

One of my readers called it to my attention as a topic of a blog, which might be appropriate as I listen to the debate or discussion between the President and members of Congress in the debt ceiling situation.

While the name has only been attached to it for a short time, many speakers have used the method in bringing listeners' attention to their point, as well as writers, for many years.

So if you haven't been acquainted with this current rage, which is sweeping the country in a humorous way, I won't bother to type out some more illustrations, because page after page is available on your computer by just logging in on the title "paraprosdokian."
