Eureka Says Goodbye To Class of 2011

In real life, every day you graduate: a message to Eureka High School seniors regarding Monday's ceremony.

It is always bittersweet to say goodbye to kids you have come to know and love over four years, some of which I have know for many more years.

There are countless memories, stories, laughs and tears. I find graduation a time of reflection about the profession I have chosen for the last 32 years.  The things I learn every day from kids are immeasurable. There are so many students who are wise beyond their years and offer advice, which is solid and worthy of listening, too.

There is nothing better than seeing the younger students, or special needs kids, see one of our athletes in the hall, who they idolize, and watch those students respond back with a high five, or "How's your day going, buddy?" It is heartwarming.

The seniors often do not realize what an impact their words have on the underclassmen, or on me, for that matter. There are so many great things about being an educator in a phenomenal high school like Eureka...I could not imagine any other profession which would make my life's work happier.

So, to the Class of 2011:  "Graduation is only a concept. In real life, every day you graduate. Graduation is a process that goes on until the last day of your life. If you can grasp that, you'll make a difference."

The Class of 2011 at will make a difference, of that I am sure.

CONGRATULATIONS ON A JOB WELL DONE, KIDS AND PARENTS!

GRADUATION IS MAY 23 AT  CHAIFETZ ARENA AT 7 PM.

Congratulations to Andy Gensler (keynote), Lynn Martin and Fielding Poe (name readers) for receiving top votes from this senior class.
