Goodbye to Huckabee and Trump
Observing our state of the state and union in the past few days seen through these old eyes that remember well.
Things are moving so fast in political circles right now, it is hard to know where to begin. Thus the title relating to the top two in the polls for the GOP nomination getting out to the race at almost the same time. So I start with them.
I knew Donald Trump when he suddenly got into the Reform Party race with me, and we ended up in the California primary. Buchanan did not have the heart to enter and when Donald dropped out, with his name still on the ballot, he was disqualified. Although he had more votes than I, old George was declared the winner. That is a story in itself.
Last week I was sent a video about an hour long of the Trump speech in New Hampshire. He stated in positive terms thoughts and ideas that needed to be said, although it rambled and he did some misleading points, one about new bridges. Have you seen one? The great one that has just recently been completed is the structure over the Colorado River which gives an easy and scenic route from Arizona to California with a good view of the dam instead of the crooked difficult and possibly dangerous trip over the dam itself.

Then right here in St. Louis, the great new Mississippi river bridge is being built, although we seem to have trouble finding a name for it.
Then statements from the closing of the legislature concerning things that were achieved, and mostly things that were not approved in an attempt to balance the budget. During the session I learned of one need that, probably because of the beauty of the structure, no one knows about. The State Capitol is in need of an estimated $100 million to bring it to long-term usefulness. I did receive a letter from the governor on the progress made.

The State Legislators carried out the tradition, which I dislike and did not care for when I was there. During the final days, all the copies of bills and other messages were saved and stacked on their desks, then at closing, all this was thrown into the air.
At a higher level, we are engaged in a costly war in the Mideast because that is where the all important oil is. Get out your globe and look at the Strait of Hormuz at the Persian Gulf and the other entrance to the Red Sea through which millions of barrels of oil are shipped each day. What would happen if a religious war breaks out there and these outlets are closed?
So when President Obama is criticized by almost all on the right when he attempts to help Brazil open the largest new oil patch discovery deep in the Atlantic off their coast, but out of the reach of the Mideast rulers, perhaps like the bin Laden raid, he might have information that some action is needed to help keep the wheels rolling here.
So along with all the problems of the world, with European countries about to go bankrupt and were hoping to be bailed out by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), when suddenly the president of that fund, leaves a $500 per night, discounted price, hotel and runs into the hands of the law, now resting in a city jail at taxpayers' expense after yielding to the desires of the flesh.
Part of my day was hooking up a new keyboard and a wireless mouse to my computer, and it took a while to get used to it.
I guess a good way to end, would be to wish Tony La Russa good health and better luck with the Cardinals on their home stand. Good Luck
