My Experience: KMOX Spring Training Correspondent Contest

Being a finalist for the KMOX Spring Training Correspondent Competition—oh, what a ride it was.

I was a radio contest finalist.

At the beginning of February, a friend of mine suggested I audition for the . One winner would be selected to have a four-day, all expenses paid trip to Jupiter, FL, to be an on-air correspondent for KMOX 1120AM; a total dream job, including interviews with players and coaches.

They held four days of auditions. I went on the final day, located at J. Buck's in Clayton. When I arrived, I was given a page worth of copy to practice until it was my turn. It included everything from St. Louis Blues hockey, to college basketball, and the passing of a soccer legend. I got up, they videotaped my audition (seen here), and that was that.

Out of 200 auditions, I made it to the Top 10!

Making it as a finalist meant I was chosen by the judges from KMOX and Lindenwood University. I was incredibly flattered. It has always been a dream of mine to be a sports broadcaster. When I was younger, I looked up to Jack Buck; in fact, I wanted to be the female version. In college I had the opportunity to work on a sports television show. I also had my own sports radio show.

After 10 days of voting by the general public, alas I did not win. It was so humbling to see all the support that came my way. I am sincerely grateful. I may not have won, but I still think it's pretty neat to have been chosen by the judges.

You never know what life is going to deal you, so it doesn't hurt to get out there and try. For the rest of my life I can say I auditioned to be a Spring Training Correspondent at KMOX, and that's not too shabby.
