Pulitzer-Prize Winning Journalist to Visit Eureka High School
Paul Salopek, two-time winner of the Pulitzer will be visiting Eureka High School, hosted by the Model UN club on November 2nd, 2012.

Why do high schools exist? To inspire young adults to achieve; to go beyond the realm of mediocre and cross the threshold of societal greatness. In other words, we put our kids on a yellow school bus every morning so that they don’t end up flipping burgers at McDonald's.
Due to technological advancements and great improvements in the American education system, we’ve moved far beyond the days of chalkboard lectures, and schools are using innovative and more effective ways to reach students and share knowledge. New opportunities have evolved and are becoming progressively more available. As our world gets “smaller” and the value of educating future generations is increasingly recognized by society as a whole, these opportunities become greater and more fantastic.
An example of such an opportunity can be found in an upcoming event at Eureka High School, the hosting of guest speaker Paul Salopek. Salopek, two-time winner of the Pulitzer is an international journalist sponsored by National Geographic and the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting.

He will be speaking to students about his impending seven-year trek around the world, crossing the borders of 39 countries entirely on foot. This project, entitled “Out of Eden” will explore the footsteps of mankind’s ancestors, in addition to garnering information as to the local and primitive lifestyles of a variety of cultures he will encounter.
On Nov. 2, 2012, students with passes from their grade level principal will be allowed to attend an hour-long presentation by Mr. Salopek. In some instances, entire history classes will be attending with their teacher’s consent. Students will have ample opportunity to address questions to Mr. Salopek. This is of special interest to the Model UN club at the high school which consists of students concerned with international affairs. The Model UN club invited Mr. Salopek to visit the high school and along with the rest of the student body, are ecstatic to be receiving him.
