Wildcats Capture District Championship

Eureka baseball bats and pitching are on fire!

What a week it has been for the Eureka Baseball team! The Wildcats battled their way to a District Championship on Wednesday against rival and No. 2 seeded Lafayette with a 10-0 rout over the Lancers.

It was Eureka's 14th district title in school history and first since 2005. The combination of great pitching, hot bats and dynamic defense defined the team all week starting on Monday against Marquette where the Cats went extra innings to pull it out in the 10th 7-3.

Top seeded Parkway South was next on the list for the Cats where the team ignited.  Spencer Stein, Josh Stephens and Tanner McKay all had homeruns and Matt Hasenbeck controlled the mound.

For the Class 4 District 4 Championship, Nick Jacobs pitched an outstanding game to keep the Lancers at bay with no runs, with some help from relief pitcher Ryan Emmerson. The team's win was also driven by offensive leaders, Aaron Schnurbusch, Andy McNeel and Trevor Fain having two hits apiece.  Schnurbusch drove in four runs and McNeel scored three.

The Wildcats will face a tough hitting squad when they meet Vianney in the Class 4 sectional playoff game Tuesday afternoon at Vianney, 4:30 p.m. We would like to see everyone there!
