Character Building at Wildwood Middle School Promoted by Traveling Speaker

Students and staff at participated this week in a character education activity led by Stu Cabe, a traveling speaker of the United States and Canada, who shares the message of making good choices and standing up for what is good. 

Cabe specializes in developing positive school climate and culture. He lives in Littleton, CO. He is a self-professed, long-time lover of theater, and has been a professional actor for 20-plus years, according to his on-line background. With a master's degree in education and a bachelor's degree in drama, he has taught high school and middle school. He has worked with professional theater companies, both nationally and internationally, and is an advocate for arts education and awareness for young people.

He founded The Ovation Company in 2004.

While Cabe visited Wildwood in February, he returned this week to build on these messages and challenge students and staff to take an active role in defining their school climate. 

“During the presentation, students learned to closely examine the things they do out of habit; the words they say and the choices they make,” said Kimberly Dickens, Wildwood Middle School assistant principal. “It’s important to stop and think about our actions, and why we are choosing to say and do certain things.” 

Following the presentation, students discussed what bullying means to them and took a pledge against bullying. The school then came together to form an anti-bullying chain out of paper. 

“The chain shows we’re united in our anti-bullying efforts, and we’re here to support one another,” said Wildwood Middle School Principal Allison Klouse. 

“We’re committed to creating a positive community and we look forward to participating in other activities this year that promote good character.”
