Christian Store Cokesbury is Closing
Cokesbury, a national retailer of Christian books and other products, is closing its West St. Louis County location located on Manchester Road.
The Cokesbury store atΒ 14560 Manchester Road is closing operations Jan. 12, after 20 years in service.

Amy Smith, spokesperson for the national retailer of Christian products said CokesburyΒ the West St. Louis County closure is part of a plan by United Methodist Publishing House, the parent company of Cokesbury, to close all stores across the country.

"More of our customers are shopping online and in our call center," Smith told Patch.
She said the chain will begin focusing on online sales and services at Cokesbury.com and providingΒ services through its call center. Cokesbury is also adding more than 40 sales representatives to the field and increasing its presence at events.

Overall, 185 full-time employees and just over 100 part-time employees will be affected by the closures across the chain. The West County store closure will impact four employees.
According to Smith, Cokesbury has existed since 1789, and has had some form of a store in place since that time.
"Closing our local storesΒ has been aΒ difficult andΒ disappointing decision.Β Cokesbury stores haveΒ been an important and cherished part ofΒ our ministry over manyΒ decades, but theΒ simple fact is thatΒ fewer and fewerΒ individuals rely onΒ stores to shop forΒ the products they need," the company stated in an email sent out to Cokesbury customers.
