Citizens of Eureka and surrounding areas continue fight against proposed sand and gravel mine!
Planning and Zoning, City of Eureka, considering Winter Brothers proposed sand and gravel open pit mine in Eureka and adjacent St. Louis Cty
<Save Our Homes Eureka continues fight against Winter Brothers sand and gravel open pit mine!>
We want everyone to know how well we are doing in the fight to block the Winter Brothers Sand And Gravel mine here in Eureka! The second Planning and Zoning Committee meeting October 29 was as awesome as the first. Approximately 300 citizens attended and only a handful were present in support of the project. We occupied another hour, with those who had not yet spoken at the first meeting presenting yet more opposition to the open pit mine. It is clear from attendees that this project will have a big impact on people in Eureka, Pacific, Wildwood, St. Louis County and Jefferson County.
The Winter Brothers then made their proposal to the committee. Judging by their response, the committee also sees a lot of problems with the project as proposed. So far we have heard about traffic and water safety-we are definitely not convinced about the safety of the project for our roads nor the safety of water in our wells and in the Meramec River. The Winter Brothers full presentation and their “studies” may be viewed at the City of Eureka website-you can see the problems for yourself. The second meeting ended at 10 pm, with still more information to come.

The next meeting is this Wednesday Nov 12, at 7 PM in the main meeting room of The Timbers.
The Winter Brothers will present their other studies regarding property values adjacent to the mine and in Eureka and about the tax revenue. We seriously believe that there is a definite large impact on our property values with subsequent impact on revenue to the City of Eureka. There is very little tax revenue that comes from the sand and gravel operation. The net result is ABSOLUTELY NO BENEFIT TO EUREKA!
After the Winter Brothers final presentations we may rebut with new information not stated previously or to correct any information that they present. We have some other very good information not yet presented.
