Consumers Seek Cable Alternatives

One Eureka business owner said it's helping him that consumers are cutting their cable and supplementing with services like Hulu, Netflix and Redbox.

TV-antenna seller Richard Schneider from Eureka recently told a St. Louis Business Journal reporter his company's sales are soaring.

Schneider’s Antennas Direct sold 70,000 antennas in January, and he told the Business Journal he expects his company’s sales to double this year from last year’s sales of about 600,000 antennasβ€”an increase from 400,000 in 2010.

His company’s antennas cost $50 to $150, and are sold at stores, including Best Buy Co., CostCo and .

The Business Journal reporter cited The Wall Street Journal's published story in February about how old-fashioned television broadcasts are enjoying an unexpected revival.
