First 2011 District Softball Game Goes to Eureka

Eureka High School girls' varsity softball players edged out the Pacific High team on Wednesday at the Wildcats field.

Wednesday's softball game between the Eureka High and Pacific High teams was more of a pitching duel.

It was still 0-0 in the second inning. But after a ball from Pacific pitcher Sammi Pigg nearly hit Eureka pitcher Maddie Kumrey in the head during her at-bat, it allowed a Eureka runner on first base to head to second base. A throw to second base missed and went into the outfield, enabling the Eureka runner to score.

At the top of the third inning, it was Eureka 1 - Pacific 0.

coach Mark Mosley told his team in the Eureka dugout to "explode" in batting, especially after getting the opportunity to see the pitches from their competitor in the previous innings.

By the bottom of the fifth inning, however, it was still the same score. As if in response to the Eureka fans and teammates in the dugout, who were yelling "Rally, Rally, Rally," Eureka's players then took a larger lead at 3-0.
