In order to support the many unique gifts and learning styles of its students, The Fulton School is partnering with theΒ St. Louis Learning Disability AssociationΒ (LDA) to offer a comprehensive Learning Support Program on campus for students who need more one-on-one structure than classroom teachers can provide.
Β
βThe more we understand about how the brain learns, the more opportunity we have to reach each child,β said head of school Kara Douglass. Β βMore and more families are wanting to understand their children's unique learning profiles, which means schools have an increasing responsibility to meet those needs.β

Β
The Fulton Schoolβs curriculum is Montessori for toddlers through 3rd grade, while grades 4 through 12 experience a progressive curriculum emphasizing a college-preparatory and βlife-preparatoryβ education to foster confidence, critical thinking skills, and integrity.
Β
"We have always believed in the uniqueness of each child and that it is the responsibility of the educator to meet the child where he is,β said Douglass. Β βWe are thrilled to be expanding the range of students we can serve through this partnership."
Β
With this Learning Support Program, the school will better serveΒ the whole family, embracing the unique needs and gifts of each child.
Β
The program will have three distinct levels of support:
Β
The Intensive Support Program includes daily tutoring, organization and study skills coaching, and extensive teacher support. This program is well-suited for those students needing daily one-on-one attention due to learning disabilities, dyslexia, ADHD, and/or autism.
Β
The Comprehensive Support Program includes tutoring two times per week, organization and study skills coaching, and extensive teacher support. This program is well-suited for those students who need general support rather than a specific skill focus. It is also suitable for students who are falling behind due to learning disabilities, dyslexia, ADHD, and/or autism.
Β
Parents also can choose to set up tutoring during the school day or after school on campus through theΒ LDA.
Β
All students in The Fulton School community will benefit from the new Learning Support Program. During the 2014-15 school year, the program will offer an open homework hour, quiet resource room, teacher support, and testing support to the entire student body at no cost.
Β
βThe great advantage to our LDA partnership is that they can provide a wide range of specialty services to accommodate each student's particular needs, whether it be Wilson Reading or remedial math or locker organization,β said Douglass. Β βAll tutoring and support will be during the day so kids can rest and play when they get home. Β Our intention is that students graduate out of the program in 2 to 4 years as they catch up and learn to advocate for themselves.β
