Ham It Up on Radio in Eureka

Would you like to learn how to operate ham radios? Eureka-based emergency responders offer upcoming classes; sign up pronto—by Thursday.

Community Emergency Response Team officials will host a free Ham Radio Class, starting next month. Class dates are June 11, 18 and 25 and July 2 and 9. Classes will all be at Eureka Fire District Training Center, 18765 Old Highway 66. Registrations should be submitted by Thursday.

While the instructions are free, a book will required for the class; the cost of the book is $25 each.

Classes will teach about ham radios and prepare participants to pass the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) test to become a ham radio operator. A test will be given at the end of the sessions. Participants do not need to be a member of CERT to attend this class.
