Lafayette Trumps Eureka in Highway 109 Showdown Football Game

PHOTOS OF ACTION: The annual rival football game between Eureka High and Lafayette High Schools had some interesting moments, but the bragging rights go to the Lancers this year.

At halftime, Friday night's annual rival football game between the and the was 21-0 Lancers, but by the third quarter it was a closer game at 28-14. A missed pass by the Wildcats in the end zone at a critical point left Eureka wanting, and the final score was 35-14 Lafayette.

The game was played in Wildwood.

A key play of the game came from Lafayette's Deonte Robinson, who ran the ball back from about the 35 yard line down the length of the field to score without being stopped. This play came right after Eureka had finally gotten on the board.

Robinson told Patch from the sidelines:  "After they scored, I told coach to give it to me and I'll run it back. It felt good."

The game reflected quite a few penalties, with a reported 68 tallied during the first half of the game.
