Rockwood Expo Exposes Kids' Summer Camps
Whether children want to sing, juggle, perform in plays, train to be an astronaut, ride horses, play sports or take care of animals, this annual preview of summer activities provides a look at the possibilities.
Sunday's Rockwood Community Education Summer Expo 2011 was an excellent precursor to activities that opened for registration on Monday.Β Held at Marquette High School from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., waves of families from throughout the district interacted with 65 exhibitors, who represented various camp services.
"Our exhibition space sold out, and many of the exhibitors are from outside of our immediate Rockwood area, so we feel as though the Expo really gave a solid showing of different creative activities," said Mike Seppi, director of community education for the .
Seppi said he thought this year's Expo represented a wider variety of vendors than in previous years.Β "And I believe attendance is up, with a more consistent crowd throughout the entire Expo time frame."

Judging from the 500 prepared materials bags to be distributed to attendees, the Expo attracted quite a few interested families.Β Seppi said they distributed one bag per family, with many families having more than one representative present at the Expo.
Even with today's tight economy, Seppi said he thought people are still looking at options for their children. He said Rockwood Community Education staffers have adjusted their programs, due to economic factors, by offering a wider variety of one-day, one-time events.Β

"Maybe everyone can't do everything," he said. "But maybe everyone can do some things."
Rockwood Show Choir groups provided two on-stage performances for Expo attendees.
