Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri annual April Showers Collection

The Girl Scouts April Showers personal care collection was a HUGE success in the FentonValley Park area this year.  District 12 Neighborhood 3 has 64 troops with 715 girls and they collected over 21,000 items and donated them to the Circle of Concern.  We have a wonderful Girl Scout neighborhood and I am very proud of our Leaders, the girls and their families for making this happen every year.   The Circle of Concern is very appreciative of this donation and they share the items with other local food pantry's. Personal care items cannot be purchased with food stamps so there is always a great need for them. April Showers reflects Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri’s dedication to the community. This extraordinary program launched in 1998, and has since met a critical need. A lot of time and effort goes into making this service project happen, I am so proud of our Leaders, girls and their families for taking time out of busy schedules.   It is very important for the girls to see that their efforts are making a difference right in their own neighborhood. Adult volunteers Debbie Lieberman and Barb McMahan do a wonderful job preparing the bags for distribution and working out the routes that  the troops are assigned to.  On pick up day the troops count items and drop them off at the Circle of Concern where a group of older Girl Scouts sort and box everything.  This year we were happy to have the Our Savior Lutheran Men's Network help out with the sorting, boxing and heavy lifting, they are  a  great group of guys who are dedicated to serving the community and we truly appreciated their help! Thank you to all who supported April Showers!Linda Hood
