Olde Towne Fenton Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Scholarship & Awards Presentation
Fenton, MO -
An awards presentation and reception was held on Saturday, April 6th, hosted by the Olde Towne Fenton (OTF) DAR Chapter, honoring five area high school seniors who were the recipients of the OTF DAR Good Citizens Award: Jessica Bloomrosen (Eureka High School), Jaime Staengel (Rockwood Summit High School), Ryan Edwards (Valley Park High School) and Nicholas Allen (Vianney High School). Also honored was Patrick Noble (Vianney High School), the Olde Towne Fenton Chapter, Missouri State Society DAR Scholarship Entrant. Christine Hancock, the First Lady of Fenton was present, as well as Edna Warren, one of the judges of the contestants, and a previous DAR Good Citizen Award recipient herself; Dr. Emily McCowan, Rockwood Summit High School Senior Class Principal; Teresa Zielonko, a guidance counselor from Vianney; and friends and families of the students.
Each year, the Daughters of the American Revolution, present a Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest, intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship.

This award recognizes and rewards individuals who possess good citizenship qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism in their homes, schools and communities. These students were selected by their teachers and peers because they demonstrate these qualities to an outstanding degree.
Each Good Citizens Award recipient was presented with a certificate, a pin, a wallet card, an Amazon gift card, and a monetary contribution to help defray college expenses. Nicholas Allen was also presented with a $300 Chapter scholarship and the opportunity to compete for additional recognition at the State level.

The OTF Chapter, NSDAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Committee co-chairs were Susan Hauf and Janice De Weese. Susan commented, “Jan and I enjoyed visiting the schools, talking with the counselors and meeting the students. Our DAR Good Citizens and scholarship entrant make their schools and communities proud.”
Jessica plans to attend Vanderbuilt University in the Fall, Ryan and Patrick both plan to attend St. Louis University, Jaime will be attending Murray State, and Nicholas is planning to attend Missouri S&T.
From the success of this year’s program, the Olde Towne Fenton DAR Chapter would like to build the interest of seniors from the Class of 2014. It is hoped that participation in the DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest will continue to grow each year.
