Balancing Treatment with Quality of Life in Seniors
Balancing treatment with quality of life in our senior loved ones can be challenging. Read our blog for insightful tips during this difficult time.

It is common for senior to develop a variety of health issues as they age. At times, a health condition may be chronic or life threatening. As a caregiver you can help your senior loved one make difficult choices about treatment options. Take the time to look at all options and ask for help when needed. Consider the following questions:
- Discuss the cost and benefits with your senior loved one’s doctor. Will the benefits such as extending life expectancy or decrease in pain outweigh the side effects of the treatment?
- How is your senior loved one’s general health? Are they taking medications that may counteract treatment?
- Will treatment impact the remainder of your senior loved one’s social life?
- Consider a second opinion before starting treatment.
- Does your loved one have a preference from a spiritual standpoint?
- Support groups and/or psychotherapy may help your loved one deal with their diagnosis.
A challenging health diagnosis can be overwhelming for both your senior loved one and for you, the caretaker. Take steps to ensure that you stay healthy, both emotionally and physically. If you find that you need help caring for your senior loved one, it may be time to consider getting help. An adult day care may be the perfect solution for your senior loved one.
