I Need Spring Right Now

If you just can't wait for Mother Nature to stop it with the snow already, I've got your cure.

According to the calendar, we have about two weeks until spring. If you just can't wait for Mother Nature to stop it with the snow already, I've got your cure:

March Morpho Mania at the Butterfly House in Chesterfield's Faust Park.

This is my favorite time to visit the Butterfly House, where it's always 85 degrees and tropical. During the month of March the Butterfly House is jam packed with big Blue Morpho butterflies. They stock up the little guys, and release about 3000 of them over the course of the month.

The Butterfly House ships their Blue Morphos from a Costa Rican butterfly farm, El Bosque Nuevo. They are unable to raise their own butterflies due to the extremely picky diet of each species that flitters about the conservatory. Instead, they purchase the butterflies as chrysalis and let them hatch here in St. Louis. You can see the “baby butterflies” from a window inside the conservatory.

The new learning lab should also be ready for us, so stop on by and have some fluttery fun with the kids.

The Butterfly House costs $6 a head for grown ups, and $4 for kids (little ones under 2 are free). Members of the Missouri Botanical Garden also get in free. The Butterfly House is open seven days a week during March, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
