Kidney Disease In Seniors

Do you know the signs of kidney disease in seniors? Read our blog for details.

As caregivers for our senior loved ones, it is important to note that one of the risk factors for kidney disease is the aging process. The symptoms of kidney disease are often subtle and increase slowly over time.  The signs are often similar to other heath issues, which makes diagnosis difficult.  The following are some of the symptoms of kidney disease:

  • Changes in urination
  • Swelling
  • Hypertension that is difficult to control
  • Fatigue/difficulty sleeping
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Shortness of breath
  • Rashes or persistent itchiness
  • Muscle cramps

If your senior loved one is struggling with these symptoms, talk to their doctor about the possibility of kidney disease.  Diabetes, high blood pressure and other health conditions can lead to kidney failure, so it is important to talk openly with your loved one’s doctor about any changes or concerns.
