I am on a mission this year to photograph as many retro signs in the St Louis metro area that I can. I love the old signage, and they are slowly fading away for many different reasons... too expensive to maintain or restore, out of business, etc. In this series of photos, the Phils BBQ sign no longer exists, being replaced by a newer modern sign. These signs bring back so many memories. I post my photos on Facebook and love to read the stories that these photos genertate. If you have a memory about one or more of these places, please feel free to post them. I would love to read them.
My grandmother lived near Federhofer's. Every Saturday morning we would walk to Ferderhofer's, eat donuts and take the bus downtown(this was in the 50's). I loved those Saturdays, and every time I see that sign it makes me smile.
I have a request to all that follow my blog. Please direct me to any signs that you may know of. If I get a good shot, I will send you an 8x10 print free. I also sell prints of all my work in a wide range of sizes and media, from fine art paper, gallery wrapped canvas and metal. I can be contacted thru this blog or my website.
