Roller Derby Season Begins

FOUR EVENLY-MATCHED ROLLER DERBY TEAMS BEGIN QUEST FOR TITLE!

The 2011-12 intraleague season for the Arch Rival Roller Girls begins this Saturday night at Midwest Sport Hockey at Queeny Park (57o Weidman Road, Ballwin, MO). Doors open at 6:30 pm and the two-bout tilt starts promptly at 7 pm.

Flat Track Roller Derby is a hot sport that has emerged over the past five to seven years from the ashes of late-70’s WWF-style banked-track derby. Roller derby leagues are popping up across the nation and the world.

The Arch Rival Roller Girls, LLC (ARRG) is St. Louis’ first and only Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) certified all-female flat-track roller derby league.

Founded in 2005, ARRG has since grown from a dozen women to a 100-person league comprised of more than 70 active skaters split into four unique local teams and three travel teams: the nationally ranked All Stars, and St. Lunachix who primarily play other B-teams in the region, and the developmental team the Rookie Rivals.

The attached photos were all taken between 2006 to 2008.  I was fascinated with all of the patterns and colors of Roller Derby, especially the leg treatments, along with the makeup and personas.
