Why Buy a Poster? When Original Art is Available?
Posters/Reproductions vs. Original art
It befuddles me why so many people prefer to buy posters and prints on canvas when they can own an original piece of art for about the same cost. Why would you buy from a catalog? A $400 screen print on canvas? Really? But it's framed too, you say. Still, what kind of quality can you see in a picture of a picture?
For the same cost as a catalog reproduction of what might, at some point have been an original, you can buy local, see it in person, meet the artist and even commision a piece to your liking. Not only are you filling that void on the wall, you also are supporting a local artist and you now own an original that no one else will have. It can't get any better than that. Can it? There is a home to almost 30 artists of various mediums right under our noses called The Studio Corner in Fenton, featuring works from photography to watercolors to oils, in various sizes and colors. Can't find what you are looking for, but like a particular style of one of the artists. Set up an appointment to meet with the artist and discuss commissioning a piece, perhaps a portrait from Ryan Sartori or an exquisite oil from Fawn O'Connor. That has to be expensive, you say . . . not at all! A 22x28 graphite pencil or pastel portrait from Ryan is only $125. Fawn O'Connor's oils barely exceed the $100 mark...(better snatch those up because we think she is fabulously talented!) Pricing from $12 -$1000 (for a 36x36" oil). There is something original for every budget.
What about scuplture or 3-d art? Matt Gaebler and Joshua Bell are bringing unique pieces every few weeks. Phylaine Henselin and Sharon Harting have the most gorgeous, usable cups and plates and bowls that you simply must have one!

Once again I can not contemplate "Why buy a poster when you can have an original piece of art?"
