Willkommen Everybody

           Looking for family-friendly fun right here in Jefferson County?  If so, let the German Cultural Society show you what “Willkommen” means.  Last month I attended the annual Maifest celebration which included the raising of the Maypole, dancing and authentic German music.  Last weekend, the park was the site of the Sommerfest celebration with dancing and live music played by the Deutschmeister Brass Band.  The night ended with fireworks.  We are so lucky to have Donau Park in our own backyard, near the corner of West Rock Creek Road
and Old Highway 141. 

          The events are always free, and you can buy authentic German food and drink onsite.  Music and dancing can be enjoyed at the pavilion, biergarten and clubhouse onsite.    While there, don’t be surprised to hear the familiar chant, “Tiki-taki, Tiki-taki” to which you reply “oy oy oy” before you take a swig of your favorite refreshment. 

          The next opportunity to celebrate life with the German Historical Society is July 15 from noon to 6 PM at the Wiener-Schnitzel Dinner.  Where will this great event be held?  You guessed it, Donau Park, right here in Jefferson County. I have tasted the German Society’s wiener-schnitzels (breaded, fried pork sandwiches) and I can tell you, they are divine. 

         So, mark your calendars and plan for a good time.  I hope to see you and your lederhosen there!  Wear ‘em if you’ve got ‘em.  Auf wiedersehen.
