Kaiser Electric crews have completed renovations to the University of Missouri - Columbia's (MU) 48-year-old Mark Twain Residence Hall. The hall was closed in December, 2011 for renovations and will re-open in August 2013 for the university's fall semester. The hall's dining facility was also included in the $21.7 million project. Kaiser Electric, headquartered in Fenton, MO with a division in Central Missouri, provided new electrical wiring, lighting, branch circuiting, data and communication service, and fire alarm wiring within both the residence hall tower and dining facility. The general contractor on the project was River City Construction based in Ashland, MO. Renovations to the seven-story hall included a gut-renovation of the main desk area, student rooms and restrooms, lower level spaces and main lounge, as well as relocation of the entrance, the addition of study rooms throughout, restoration of the exterior façade and replacement of the windows and central air conditioning and heating units. The building's capacity was reduced from 395 to 380 students in order to increase the amount of community space. Renovations to the Mark Twain dining facility included a new roof, updated finishes, the addition of restrooms, expansion of the seating area and refrigerated, frozen, dry storage and receiving areas. In order to accommodate the dining expansion, the original in-ground swimming pool was removed. The Mark Twain project is part of the university's Residential Life Master Plan, a five-phase plan designated to replace or renovate all residence halls on the MU campus. Across campus, Kaiser crews completed renovations to Pershing Hall in February 2013. The commons building houses the Mizzou Market (which reopened in August 2012), offices for Residential Life's Residential Academic Programs (RAP) and various study, computer and meeting spaces for students.
