Lindbergh Defense Falls to Oakville

The Flyers lost at Oakville 25-16 and 28-26.

The Flyers defense came back against Oakville, but eventually fell short in two games, 25-16 and 28-26. The loss gave the Tigers the conference title. Β Β 

Oakville came out strong in the first game and defeated Lindbergh 25-16. Their defense stopped the Flyers’ tips and slide hits and had a 10-point lead at one point.

β€œThe first match, I don’t even know what happened; we missed four serves, we couldn’t pass, we didn’t play our defense,” said Lindbergh coach JohnnaΒ Wieter.Β β€œOakville came out ready to play and we did not.”

The second game wasn’t as easy for the Tigers. Lindbergh tied it up after Oakville led 6-1 off consistent serves from Jennifer Brendel. The two teams went point-for-point, passing 25. Several kills by Jill Harmon kept Lindbergh in the game until a kill from the middle ended the game, 28-26 in Oakville’s favor.Β Harmon finished the game with eight kills.

β€œWe started playing better defense, we started passing well and in the end, it was serve receive,” Wieter said. β€œOakville served very aggressively. They just played better than us tonight."

Lindbergh is now 18-11 for the season and has their last regular-season game Thursday at home against Webster Groves.
