Olde Towne Fenton Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Presents Four Local High School Students with DAR Good Citizen Awards and Scholarships
Recent DAR Good Citizens Announced by Olde Towne Fenton Chapter; Scholarships also Awarded

The DAR Good Citizens program and scholarship contest is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship and is open to all senior class students enrolled in an accredited public or private secondary school that is in good standing with their State Board of Education. Only one student per school may be selected as DAR Good Citizen.
The student selected as the school’s DAR Good Citizen must have the qualities of dependability (which includes truthfulness, loyalty, and punctuality); service (which includes cooperation, courtesy, and consideration of others); leadership (which includes personality, self-control, and ability to assume responsibility); and patriotism (which includes unselfish interest in family, school, community and nation) to an outstanding degree.
Recently, the Olde Towne Fenton (OTF) Chapter held their annual Good Citizen Awards Reception, recognizing as Good Citizens: Michael Babb, Jr., from St. John Vianney High School; Audrey J. Tomlinson, from Eureka High School; Abigail Sage, from Rockwood Summit High School; and Abigail Ross, from Valley Park High School. All four students were awarded with a certificate of distinction, a gift certificate, a DAR Good Citizen pin, and a wallet recognition card. The winners of the DAR Good Citizen Award are also eligible to compete in a scholarship contest. All four students competed in the two-part scholarship contest, which contains an essay portion. This year’s essay topic was “Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility for Preserving It”. Each contest entry is evaluated by independent, non-DAR judges. The winning entry is advanced through state and national levels of judging.
The essays submitted by each student were judged worthy of scholarship awards. Abigail Ross and Abigail Sage were awarded $100 and $150 scholarships, respectively. Audrey Tomlinson was awarded a $250 scholarship. Michael Babb, Jr. won a $500 scholarship, and his first place essay is being submitted for DAR state-level judging, which if chosen as the winning essay on the state level, will go on to compete nationally. Michael, when asked to comment on one of the qualities of good citizenship, that of dependability, responded by saying, “I have made it a priority to be recognized as a dependable individual. Though involved in many clubs and organizations, I have learned to delegate my time appropriately and ensure that I fulfill my duties in whatever it is I do.”
