Referee Suffers Fatal Heart Attack at Lindbergh Soccer Game

Jim Duniven was pronounced dead a short time after collapsing during the Lindbergh vs. Kirkwood varsity soccer match Thursday.

Tragedy struck a high school soccer field Thursday when a respected referree suffered a fatal heart attack.

Jim Duniven, 59, of Sappington, collapsed from a heart attack around 7 p.m. toward the end of the Lindbergh/Kirkwood boys varsity soccer match at Lindbergh High School, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

A Lindbergh trainer and a doctor in the stands performed CPR on Duniven until emergency workers arrived, according to the Post. Duniven was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital a short time later.

In 2005, Duniven wasΒ honored as the Missouri State High School Activities Association referee of the year, according to the Post.
