Shoplifter Gets Oil Change While Stealing from Walmart

The following incident report was reported by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.

Walmart, High Ridge

Deputies responded to a reported theft at the High Ridge Walmart on Dec. 8 at 10:36 a.m. The store’s loss prevention officer told deputies that a shoplifter was spotted on the surveillance video stealing a desktop computer and two laptop computers valued at $1,217.93. The store was able to track down the identity of the shoplifter because the woman was having her car serviced at the attached Jiffy Lube while committing the crime.

Jiffy Lube gave the deputies the address of the car owner and the deputies paid her a visit. The shoplifter admitted stealing the computers.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office dispatched a deputy on December 5 around noon to investigate a suspicious person who had knocked on a woman’s door and rattled the door handle. The woman said the stranger, a young white man wearing a ball cap, also looked through the rear windows of her home.

The deputy asked the woman if she knew her neighbor, who’s house looked empty and didn’t have any cars in the driveway. The woman said her neighbor was seldom home, so the deputy decided to do a building check on the empty house.

When the deputy walked around the house he found a bag of coins sitting at the corner and the suspect walking away. The suspect was arrested and searched. The deputy found a silver dollar and three silver rings on the suspect, with an estimated value of  $600.

The homeowner was called for permission to conduct a search. The deputy found more stolen jewelry and coins from another burglary that the suspect had left behind.
