But the Lions couldn’t hold on to the lead, giving up two fourth-quarter touchdowns to the Jaguards, in an eventual 34-30 loss.
U. City, which has been primarily a passing team for most of the season, rushed for 123 yards and three scores against Seckman, while quarterback DeAndre Williams completed 12-of-21 passes for 211 yards and a touchdown to lead the Lions.
Senior wide receiver Alex Henry had another big day as well, catching seven passes for 132 yards, and raising his Suburban South-leading total 722 yards for the season.
Henry also has scored eight touchdowns this year, and is just two yards behind Ft. Zumwalt East’s Mike Mahoney (724 yards) for the area lead in total receiving yards.
Williams, who leads the league in passing with 1,256 yards and 10 touchdowns, is developing into a fine dual-threat player, ranking third in the entire area in passing yards, and amassing nearly 400 rushing yards and four touchdowns.
On defense, U. City is led senior linebackers Kylan Clayborn and Shawn Cody, the Suburban South’s top two leading tacklers, with 64 and 60 total tackles, respectively this season.
Summit junior linebacker Eric Beisel is third in the conference with 50 total tackles this season, amassing a whopping 14 in last week’s 31-14 loss to Webster Groves.
Senior defensive lineman Spencer Matthews is also having a fine year for the Falcon defense. He leads the Suburban South with seven quarterback sacks.
On offense, senior quarterback Tyler Karst is second behind U. City’s Williams in Suburban South passing, with 1,083 yards of his own, to go with nine touchdowns.
His top passing target this year has been Joe Schenk, a 6-foot-1 senior, who ranks second in catches (30) and third in yards (413) in the Suburban South this season.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., and please stay tuned in to Patch.com late Thursday evening and early Friday morning for full coverage of Thursday’s big game between U. City and Summit.
