St. Louis Police Chief to Join UMSL, Gateway for Greatness Campaign Boosts Access, Excellence
St. Louis Police Chief to join nationally ranked UMSL Criminology Department.
St. Louis Metropolitan Police Chief Daniel Isom will join the nationally ranked Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of MissouriβSt. Louis on Jan. 1. He brings with him 24 years of experience and expertise in law enforcement and administration.
Other events happening on campus include:
- UMSLβs Gateway for Greatness Campaign concluded this summer after raising more than $154 million through gifts by about 55,000 donors. Whatβs their return on investment? Access and excellence, UMSL Chancellor Tom George said in a new Gateway for Greatness Campaign video.
- At the 21st annual UMSL Founders Dinner on Oct. 2, Distinguished Alumni Awards were presented to six alumni. The founder and owner of FroYo Premium Frozen Yogurt was among the recipients. Click HERE to read about the other recipients.Β
- UMSLβs Missouri Institute of Mental Health marked 50 years of service to the community with a public celebration on Oct. 1. MIMH will commemorate its 50th anniversary with a three-part film series throughout October. The movies are free and open to the public.
- Two new tenants have set up shop in UMSLβs incubator for startup companies. Retectix and Onshore Outsourcing recently moved into UMSLβs Innovative Technology Enterprises, which brings the ITE tenant count to eight.

- Health care is a hot topic no matter what season it is, and no one knows that better than attorney Claire M. Schenk who specializes in health-care fraud and abuse cases. Schenk, partner at Thompson Coburn LLP, will discuss βAn Insiderβs Perspective on Complex Health Care and Securities Investigations and Prosecutionsβ at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 10 in the Century Rooms at the Millennium Student Center at UMSL.

UMSL is the largest university in the region. More than 16,000 students from 48 states and 62 countries are enrolled with 50,000 additional students enrolled in non-credit continuing education programs. It employs more than 1,400 full-time and part-time teaching and research faculty members. While its graduates have taken leadership roles nationally and internationally, their influence remains centered in the St. Louis region. More than 75 percent of UMSLβs 80,000 graduates still live and work in the region.
