City Encouraging Florissant Residents to Spruce Up for Festival
With less than a month until the Valley of Flowers festival, the mayor and council are asking residents and business owners to maintain their properties.

, the has asked residents to return to the roots of the festival – and in their yards.
Mayor Tom Schneider and the City Council encourage residents to step up and spruce up their properties, do routine maintenance and, if possible, plant new shrubs and flowers. The mayor said that it would be in honor of the golden anniversary that’s the signature event for the city.
According to a news release, when the festival started in 1963, there were six goals of the festival, including:

- Make Florissant a better place in which to live
- Attract more tourist and visitors.
- Help to encourage more businesses to locate in Florissant.
- Increase property values.
- Further Florissant loyalty and appreciation.
- Make Florissant even more Beautiful than it already is.
Mayor Schneider and the council would like these goals to be in place for this festival as well.
While residents are encouraged to clean up their homes and businesses, the City will be taking action, too.

The parks maintenance department will be taking extra care and attention to common ground areas, fertilizing grounds and planting more flowers and shrubs in order for the city to look its best during the festival.
The Valley of Flowers Festival will take place May 3-6.
