“Dunegant is a bit underutilized right now,” he said. “This would give Dunegant much needed traffic. For Florissant, this would become a destination place for disc golfers.”
The mayor estimates the cost for the course would be $15-$20,000, which would include the input of the goals and tees needed for the course. Park improvement funds would be used to fund the course probably, he said.
City Council President Keith Schildroth, who also heads the subcommittee, said that support for the course seems to be strong among councilors and the park board.
Schildroth said he’s visited three disc golf courses, including White Birch and Sioux Passage, and that all courses and terrains are different.
But he thinks the course would be a great addition to the park system.
Mayor Schneider said that he’s excited to see the course, and that he thinks it has the potential down the road to be the Bellerive of St. Louis for disc golf.
“It’s more than a backyard game, it’s more of a sport,” he said.
If approved, the course would be for serious disc golfers as well as amateurs.
