Ferguson-Florissant Board Hears Presentations

Wednesday's meeting included presentations by principals, food service provider and the nature area.

The Board of Education received an insider look into the plans of district principals for the 2011-12 school year.

Principals from Vogt and Airport Elementary as well as presented their 30-60-90-day plans for their schools in regards to attendance, positive behavior intervention services, meeting benchmarks and other achievement goals.

Principal Shane Hopper of McCluer North presented his plans through a makeshift news report done by two of the schools’ top students. Principals Rosetta Patton and Leslie Thomas-Washington gave short PowerpPoint presentations on their goals as well as how they would achieve them.

The 30-60-90-day plans come as a part of . McCoy explained to the board that the principals’ plans were submitted to the district and screened by his staff and him.

The board approved plans to remove invasive plants at its

Little Creek Coordinator Eric Hadley informed the board that the district received a $7,500 community stewardship grant from the Missouri Department of Conservation.

The grant would be used to cut, pile and spray honeysuckle plants that have been classified as “invasive plants.”

The board unanimously approved the proposal.

School Meal Report

Mick Willis had Fred Ellis of Aramark present the company's 2010-11 report.

Ellis showed an increase in student breakfasts with more than 25,000 served during the previous year. For lunch, the number remained around the 1.4 million mark, as it was in past years.

For new initiatives in the new school year, Aramark has made changes such as no sugary cereals offered, a fruit and vegetable bar for elementary students and no fried foods offered in secondary schools.
