Ferguson-Florissant PE Teacher Begins Running Across the Globe

The PE teacher, who reinforces physical fitness with geography lessons, took her marathon skills to London, home of the 2012 Summer Olympics, for the Virgin London marathon last month. It will be her 115^th marathon.

The School Board of Education honored the 62 year old during its meeting last week.

"Barb is good energy for the building," Combs Elementary Principal Adrienne Bland said in a previous article. "The kids are able to apply things from general education classes to physical education, which helps them understand concepts.

Wnek also said during the meeting that she will be featured in Runners’ World magazine’s Olympic edition next month.

She said in an earlier article that she started doing marathons in Wisconsin in 1997, and she hasn’t stopped since.
